Don Sprang

Trustee Achievement Award

Don F. Sprang

Don, a 1948 graduate of Perrysville High School, is the recipient of the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame Trustee Achievement Award for the year 2000.

He was a two-year letterman in basketball and baseball. After graduating from high school, Don went to work at Mansfield Plumbing Products where he worked for 43 years, being made supervisor in 1971. He played fastpitch softball with the pottery team for about 10 years and managed a couple of years.

Don was known for helping the young kids and was a 4-H advisor for seven years. In 1955, Don helped form the Ashland County Youth League and managed a team in Perrysville team, either boys or girls, for 37 years. He is still active as a member of both the Perrysville and the Southern Ashland County Board of Directors and schedules all games for over 100 teams. In the 60’s, he officiated high school baseball, basketball, and football.

He and his wife, Wanda, will be celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary this year and are the parents of daughter Teresa Buzzard, son Marvin, and daughter Dolores Gillette. They are grandparents of Chard Buzzard and Kevin Sprang, and Derick and Tiffany Gillette.

Don has been one and only treasurer of the Ashland County Sports Hall of Fame since its beginning in 1982. He is also a member of the Perrysville Town Council, Hanover Lodge #115 F & AM-King Cyrus Chapter #205, Ashland Council #128 R & SM and President of the Perrysville Senior Citizens.

The Hall of Fame congratulates Don for all his hard work and for helping develop the youth of Ashland County.
